To plan the treatment and monitoring of its efficiency it is important to obtain objective parameters such as volume of tumors and edema. An investigation with computer assisted MR tomograph is widely used for these purposes . The main step to the resolution of the volume calculation problem is the correct determination of the investigated formation edges (tumors, edema, any inner structure of any organ). It is noteworthy that there are two principally different cases and each of them is considered with the help of different techniques - objective and the texture images. To the objective type of images one can attribute the chromosome or blood preparations. The main problems in this case are an effective noise filtration and identification of partly overlapping objects. As edges are well conditioned the edge determination causes no problems. The second case ( texture images including tumor and edema images) is more complicated . The main feature of such images is the lack of objective edge criteria especially in the images which were restandardized some way during formation (often with unknown transfer function) and have considerable both additive and multiplicative noise component. SII "Intermag" is working out the problem of algorithmization of tumor and edema edges, i.e. segmetization of texture images for medical purposes . Results of the work are used in software which is developed now. |
